Taking The Time to Pamper Yourself


 

As people who spend our days working to make a living, we seldom use our precious time to pamper ourselves. Though it is important to stop and take a breath, it is also important to think about the benefits we would give our body by caring for it correctly.

I, for one, can say that I rarely think about trying to treat myself to the things that I enjoy. I will spend hours working and trying to get ahead, and when the time comes to relax, I end up working more. There comes a time when we need to realize that our health is dependent on how we manage our stresses – because, let’s face it: there will always be stress. There’s stress about what we’re doing, about what we’re not doing, what we’re doing wrong, and even about what we’re doing right. These thoughts take a huge toll on our bodies, and it comes out through our health.

Sometimes, we have to look at ourselves as machines, and, as machines, we need to have constant maintenance checks to ensure that we continue running properly. We need to be well-oiled and even turned off altogether, at times. When we relax, we reboot and become more capable of functioning efficiently.

When I do try to pamper myself, I like to fill up the tub with warm water, throw in my favorite bath bomb, and lather on a moisturizing facial mask. Sometimes, even a visit to a medical specialist helps in treating yourself. I’ll pay regular visits to my chiropractor since the condition of the muscles and bones in and around our spines is so crucial to our health. I also try to keep annual visits to a dermatologist. This way, I can make sure that my skin is as healthy as it can be.

Aside from the medical aspects of pampering oneself, we can also splurge a little on spa days. There are a lot of different types of spa days. Personally, I enjoy those of the facial variety. Receiving a facial cleansing and massage is incredibly relaxing and rejuvenating for our most visible feature: our face. In my experience, the person providing the facial will usually deeply clean out pores and stimulate them with massage, and getting a massage in itself can be one of the most relaxing things we can do to pamper ourselves. Usually, the thought of a spa day does come coupled with the thought of receiving a massage of some sort. Getting regular massages does actually have a serious effect on how our bodies function. Through massage, the toxins in our bodies are flushed, replenishing and providing us with cleaner, healthier bodies.

Sometimes, taking a day to walk around the mall and buy things that we want can really lift our spirits and make us feel special. I, myself, enjoy taking a day to go to all my favorite stores and buy myself little somethings from each one.

We can choose so many different methods of pampering ourselves, and it’s just disappointing how we rarely devote time to doing so. If you’re like me and haven’t really devoted a lot of time to taking care of yourself in a way that is relaxing and enjoyable for you, I hope that you take some time this week to really give yourself a day or two to refresh. I know I’ll be doing the same.
